The best classroom in the world

Our Year 11 diploma students visited the Auckland City Art Gallery recently as part of the school’s art programme.

They had the opportunity to see art works by New Zealand and international artists, including works by Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and New Zealand’s most recognised Kiwi artist, Colin McCahon.

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is the largest art institution in New Zealand, with more than 15,000 works in its collection, including major works of New Zealand historic, modern and contemporary art, outstanding works by Māori and Pacific Island artists, and European painting, sculpture and print.

Head of the Arts Faculty, Andrew Strachan, said the school was fortunate to have the gallery on its doorstep.

“The arts are a valued part of the College and all students studying Art are encouraged to seek a lifelong enrichment through appreciation of culture,” he said.
